It’s a celebration originated in Bavaria (Germany) and has been celebrated since 1810, when Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria and Therese of Saxony and Hildburghausen were married in Munich. It was such a success that people continued recreating the festivities year after year. Today, it’s the most popular festival in Germany and one of the most important
in the world, being imitated in many different places, including Spain. They may
not remember the Bavarian reality that inspired the event, but let’s certainly toast it.
Oktoberfest begins when, following the arrival of the Wiesnwirte (brewery owners) with their beer barrels, the mayor taps the first barrelg, and a parade of traditional costumes takes place. Then it’s time to enjoy liters of beer, traditional food from bratswurst to giant pretzels, and let it flow freely through the festival marquee.
